Legend claims, that many years ago there was a woman who was very sweet and nice, but poor. Therefore, come Christmas time, she had nothing to put on her Christmas tree. Spiders, who lived nearby wanted to help this nice woman during the holiday, so they decorated her tree with their webs. Then, on Christmas morning, as the sun began to rise, all of the webs on the tree lit up with all of the colors of the rainbow.

During Christmas dinner, some Ukrainians light a candle and display it in their window. This candle is an invitation, for those who have no children or family to celebrate this holiday with, to join the people inside and share a Christmas meal with them. Traditionally, a Christmas meal consists of 12 different dishes.
